The Naotkamegwanning (Whitefish Bay) - Northwest Angle Education Authority is in charge of operating the school through the Education Council, which consists of 8 members, 5 members from Naotkamegwanning, 1 member from Northwest Angle #37, 1 member from Northwest Angle #33 and 1 Council Representative. They are responsible for the education of the school children. They meet once a month to discuss school spending, educational programs and school discipline. We have a library in the school that every class visits at least once a week. There are 10 classrooms, a science room, a home economics room, art room, a shop, a computer lab and a gymnasium. The school is recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education and offers a full program of high school credits including: English, Math, Science, Social Sciences, Art, Physical and Health Education, Construction, Manufacturing, Ojibway, Native Studies and Computers. Future course offerings will include Tourism and Hospitality, Traditional Art and Music, Drama and Outdoor Education. The school is very proud of our Sports Program which boasts itself as the first native school to be a member of O.F.S.A.A. (Ontario Federation of schools Athletic Association) since 1985. To date our school teams have acquired the following Championships: 11 Nor.W.O.S.S.A. Titles, 4 N.W.O.S.S.A.A. Titles, 4 All Ontario appearances; 2 of which resulted in consolation championships. In addition to Sports, the school is very proud of the Whitefish Bay Singers and Dances who are recognized internationally for their traditional pow-wow dancing and singing. Finally, we are very proud of the many graduates who have come out of the education system at Whitefish Bay. They have gone on to college, university, and occupations in the community and elsewhere with great success. Mission Statement: Naotkamegwanning - Northwest Angle Education Authority believes that it must strive to deliver a quality education which successfully combines traditional cultural values and contemporary academic requirement to prepare the Anishinabe student to live successfully in today's world and the technology of the day. |
